Entry from: Panama City, Panama Entry Title: "Scenic Sights of Panama City" Entry: "I have been in Panama City for almost two weeks and now have a few photographs to show. Panama Viejo Starting with Panama Viejo, the old Panama City founded in 1519 by Spain. It was a thriving city that provided a port for ships carrying plundered gold up the coast of South America. It was destroyed by the Pirate Henry Morgan in 1671. There is only a church tower and some stone walls left standing. Panama C**** The next pictures are of the c****. At the time of Panama Viejo the gold was carried by mules across the swampy land for about 40 miles. Then it was loaded onto small boats to float down the Rio Chagres to the Caribbean Ocean where it was reloaded on ships and sent to Spain. The modern locks were completed around 1915, after efforts by the French and then American engineers to build them. It is incredible that they are still working after 90 years. The new locks will be added on the north side of the c**** in a wye configuration so that both old and new locks can be used simultaneously. The new locks are also being built to conserve water. There is an interesting museum in Caso Viejo that has pictures and movies of the c**** construction. Unfortunately all the description boards are in Spanish. That's more ...

"Lago Titicaca" Carrillo's photos about Yumani, Bolivia (what does yumani mean?)

Preview of Carrillo'sblog at TravelPod. Read the full blog here: www.travelpod.com This blog preview was made by TravelPod using the TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow creator. Entry from: Yumani, Bolivia Entry Title: "Lago Titicaca" Entry: "Despite repeated unsuccessful attempts to actually leave La Paz, Lindsay and I eventually made it to the lake town of Copacabana. Following a ferry ride to Copacabana, the bus drove us through what seemed to be strictly lake communities. For the next thirty minutes or so, there were many women and children on the side of the road begging for money, just holding out a cupped hand as the bus drove by. It was odd for a few reasons, the first being that I had never seen anyone beg to an automobile that was driving past at over 40 mph Secondly, the children were sitting on the side of the road with the sole purpose of begging towards the bus. And ultimately, some of the children were incredibly young, maybe three years old. I would be surprised if they could even walk or talk very well, but they knew how to beg and who they should ask for money. It is from Copacabana that ferries leave for Isla del Sol, a small island on Lake Titicaca (please, no juvenile jokes). Upon docking, a village boy named Rodrigo took us up to the hospedaje that he was working for. It is a typical job. Once tourists arrive, they are immediately accosted by representatives from area hostels. If you don´t feel like finding one on your own, the rep will just guide you all ...
